Sony announces the Xperia L1 coming late April 2017

The new phone from Sony is the Xperia L1. It the first L series that we have seen since 2013. The Sony Xperia L1 is being advertised to have a great display with smooth performance.  The features do point the Xperia L1 to a mid-range phone. With a big 5.5″ 720p display and USB Type C charging.  Here is the full specification:

Colour Black, White, Pink(select markets)
Size 151 x 74 x 8.7 mm @ 180 grams
Processor MediaTek QuadCore 1.45 Ghz
OS Android 7.0 Nougat
Main Camera 13MP with Autofocus, Autoscene, HDR, Full HD Video
Front Camera 5MP with Autoscene recognition
Wireless Bluetooth 4.2 aptX a2DP, WiFi, NFC
Storage 16GB + microSD upto 256GB
Battery 2620mAh
Screen 5.5″ 720p (1280×720)

What strikes to me is how simple and good the phone looks in these stock images. The screen almost has no bezel on the sides and the new UI of the L1 is the same as the up coming Sony flagship – XZ Premium.

Its kind of disappointing to see there is no version with higher than 2GB of RAM. In fact the its maximum internal capacity is 16GB which mean you are most certainly going to need to expand it. It does have a microSD card slot.

Sony is also announcing some software tricks with this phone. “Smart Cleaner” works unobtrusively in the background to ensure maximum power is available to your Xperia L1 at all times – automatically removing unused processes and cached data, for a smooth experience and longer-lasting device.

Xperia L1 features Sony Mobile’s “Xperia Actions” engine to responsively adapt device settings and functionality to your surroundings – the “Good night” mode will automatically set the device to “Do not disturb”, lower display brightness and ensure there’s no disruption whilst charging.
The Sony Xperia L1 will launch in the Middle East and Africa from late April 2017. No price yet.
