Careem signs MoU with Ministry of Transport & Communications in Qatar
Careem, the first car booking service to launch in Doha, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) in Qatar for the purpose of regulating and licensing the ride-hailing service technology in Qatar.
Earlier in May, the MOTC announced that online ride booking services like Uber & Careem would require “licenses and approvals” to operate in the country. This MoU makes Careem the first and only legal car booking platform to have completed this step required by Qatari authorities.
“We have been proactively working with the Ministry of Transport and Communication to understand the regulations set forth and to ensure that we are fully compliant. Our passion at Careem is simplifying the lives of people by providing them with a reliable, safe and affordable means of transportation. With this MOU we will continue to follow this passion as we move forward and expand operations in Qatar.” – Ibrahim Manna, GM of Emerging Markets
Careem currently offers two products in Doha – Economy & Premium, and was the first to accept cash payments in Qatar. Have you tried their service yet?
