The Huawei Mate 8 launches in Dubai, UAE tomorrow!
It only feels like a few days since the Mate 8 was announced by Huawei. Oh wait, it literally was less than a few days ago that Huawei announced the Mate 8 at stage at CES2016. We went hands on and reported on the event as well as our hands on with the Mate 8.
Huawei did announce that the Mate 8 will be coming to the UAE initially, but the launch tomorrow makes the UAE almost the first country to get the Mate 8. That’s pretty insane if you ask me. This region is clearly on Huawei’s mind and that’s pretty exciting.
AED2500 for one of the fastest phones with 4000 mAh battery
The Mate 8 will go for AED2500 in the region. We believe that’s for the 4GB RAM + 64 GB storage option. Thats a lot cheaper than international rates. The price of AED2500 gets you a great screen, a 4000 mAh battery, the Kirin 950 processor which is almost the fastest phone today according to AnTuTu Benchmark. The Huawei Mate 8 is at rank 2 at 92746 (behind the iPhone 6s Plus at Number 1) .
That makes the Mate 8 the fastest Android phone according to raw marks by AnTuTu. Obviously that’s not an indication of real speed but needless to say, its one of the fastest android phones out there. You also get 3GB or 4GB of ram with 32GB or 64GB of storage.
16 MP Camera with Fingerprint scanner
This is an Android Marshmallow phone with a heavy EMUI Huawei skin that looks a lot like iOS. This is a 6 inch phone with almost no bezels at the side. The curved and thin appearing design is a lot like the Mate S that we saw earlier.
The Huawei Mate 8 has a 16 MP camera. Its a Sony lens with way better image stabilization than any other phones. The photos actually look gorgeous on the device. It has a pretty good front facing camera as well with a face beautifier.
There were a lot of cheers at the press conference when we came to know that the phone gets over 2 days of battery life. Huawei poked fun at all the other phones needing an external battery and the best bit is that the Mate 8 can get you a full days of battery with just 30 minutes of charge with its 9V 2A fast charger.
UAE is one of the first markets to launch this device
On the side you have the conventional buttons and a newly and Level 3 finger print scanner. We tried this and it works really well. Huawei is betting big on the Middle-East and that’s exciting, In Dubai Mall yesterday, Huawei was seem demonstrating the Huawei Mate 8 and the Huawei Watch in public. They didn’t show the Women watches but showed the original W1 watch. Huawei likes to put on a show and it drew in a lot of crowd for the device itself. They had phones out on stage with demonstrations as well as an MC explaining the devices.
Here is a tease, this picture was taken from the Huawei Mate 8 ‘s camera.
We got our hands on different versions as well, and to be honest it’s the same device. Launching in the UAE this quick is a decision from the main management and it seems its executed well. Only time will tell how their sales are. With my hands on the phone for 10 days already, the Mate 8 is looking like a good device. It does have its faults which we will cover in our review later.
