LG launches the G4 in the UAE from AED2699
Life’s Good at LG this week. LG successfully launched their 2015 flagship phone, the G4.
LG was one of the first companies to go on board with Google’s Android and the G4 is a successor to the G3 that launched last year.
“Available first week of June”
The G3 was the first major re-design for LG’s android phones. It was in the G3 where the buttons were at the back of the display and that featured a camera with its laser-focus technology.

In efforts to differentiate this year round, LG decided to keep the form factor and button placements the same as with the G3 and offer the G4 with a leather back option.
The real competitor here is Samsung. The S6 and S6 edge features a remarkable improvement in hardware and some hardware innovation with the curved edge in the S6 edge. LG has a leather and ceramic back options instead.
That’s necessarily not a bad thing and it’s still something better than the controversial HTC M9 that didn’t change much. We got a chance to hold and play with the G4 at its launch in Dubai. So lets talk if these aesthetic changes really work for the G4.
“Our first impressions”
The LG G4 feels light. Something about the curved back of the phone makes it extremely comfortable to hold in the hand. There is something earthy and natural about the leather back that overall makes the LG G4 feel good in the hand. The G4 weighs at about 155 grams which is slightly heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S6 (138g) but the G4 feels a lot better with its leather cover.
The LG G4 is really just the same plastic as the G3 in other aspects. There is no wireless charging build in and doesn’t really look more appealing than the Samsung Galaxy S6. An advantage to LG is that the back cover is removable and so is the battery.
We’re seeing tech and fashion colliding more than ever this year round. Google’s investing in materials and fabrics and the Apple watch gives a lot of its attention to how it looks and feels.
“Did they just stick some leather at the back?”
Well, technically yes they did just stick some leather case at the back and it really is a case for preference. The leather back is actually well stuck and it attempts to really blend with the phone and not stand out as two different objects of the device. It doesn’t however succeed very well. It could have been much worse.
We asked around for different perspectives and one lady really liked it and said it does work at a certain level. Time will tell if the leather back really reflects in sales for LG. Right now there isn’t much of a statement to be said with the leather back and it doesn’t look like LG is advertising it from a fashion perspective yet.
The LG G4 is a 5.5 inch Quad HD (538 ppi!) IPS display. This much of a high dense display might be overkill, but it looked pretty good to us.
How did it perform?
The G4 contains a Hexa-Core Snapdragon 808 processor. That’s just a little lower than the Octa Core Exynos processor that that Samsung Galaxy S6 has. Does that mean the phone lacks in performance? Not really, in-fact the G4 performed really well in the brief time I had my hands on. LG’s interface honestly never froze and it performed multi-tasking really well. The LG G4 has 3 GB of RAM with a adequate 3,000 mAh battery in comparison to the 2550 mAh battery in the Galaxy S6.
With a lower clocked, more efficient processor and a bigger battery, the LG G4 on paper will last you longer than the Samsung Galaxy S6.
In the past year, android has seen some incredible phone cameras, and a lot of 2015’s flagship devices focus on this bit of the phone the most. LG spent quite a bit of time speaking on how their camera has improved since the G3. With a f/1.8 aperture lens (the first in any phone), Optical Image Stabilisation OIS 2.0 the LG G4 sample shots looked incredible.
The LG G4 takes 16 MP shots and has a 8MP front facing f/2.0 lens. The G4 can also take multiple bursts of selfie shots with different hand gestures.
The LG G4 will launch in the region first month of June. The 32 GB Leather case G4 will cost AED2799 and the ceramic back will cost AED2699. The non leather options are plastic silver and white ceramic.
During the LG G4 Day in Dubai event that took place, notable photographer works were shown and presented. The G4 took some shots around Dubai and UAE and were shown in great detail and explained to us.
Another announcement relevant to every user who buys the LG G4, is that with the device you get a 100 GB of Google Drive storage for 2 whole years.
The screen in the LG G4 has a 50% higher contrast at 1500:1 as opposed to the conventional 1000:1 in some phones.
LG has also increased the brightness over 25% in comparison to the “conventional” smartphones.
Speaking about the camera, not only is it f/1.8 but the G4 has a shutter speed that can go up to 30 seconds.
There is a new selfie mode that takes bursts of selfie shots with your hand gesture.
LG has improved its optical image stabilization to their OIS 2.0 spec.
LG boasts a world’s first color spectrum sensor in addition to its laser focus system for its camera . This promises better color reproduction in your photos.
Their sensors are now 40% larger and about 80% brighter.
The LG G4 will come in 6 colors of real leather which is vegetable tanned and full grain leather. The G4 in this spec will be priced at AED2799.
