Strone lets you stream your phone calls when traveling

Strong Technology announced their first device at CES, the Strone Home. This startup wants to make mobile roaming easy in more ways than one.

To start with, Strone removes any possibility of receiving a bill with exorbitant roaming charges. Secondly, it gives users the flexibility of receiving their phone calls on their laptop, tablet or another smartphone. Thirdly, its promising to provide some other minor useful features like time zone information when making calls.

The Strone receives all calls and texts on the SIM and routes it to the Strone app which can be used on any cell phone, tablet or computer.

Strone requires users to plug in their SIM into the hardware unit. This little cylindrical device then needs to be powered up, and connected to Ethernet. Once setup, the Strone receives all calls and texts on the SIM and routes it to the Strone app which can be used on any cell phone, tablet or computer. Users of the app can also make calls from it, which would then be routed via the SIM.

As a traveler, you will be required to get a local SIM with data in your country of choice when you travel if you want to stay continuously connected. The other alternate is you stay on WiFi which would remove the need for a SIM.

The device itself is all black and looks rather nice. The finish is smooth, and it would look great sitting on a table. At the front are two USB ports which will allows users to connect and charge their smartphones when at home. The back features a power port and an ethernet port. Your eyes will be drawn by the top of the device though which features the Strone logo with a circular LED running around it. Strone has said this LED colour will be customisable from within the app.   Strone features WiFi and Bluetooth sensors built into the device and that will allow users to use it as a home automation device in the future.

The Strone is going to start shipping later this year, and is expected to be around $120. There  is also going to be a monthly subscription fee to it, but you can turn the service off for the months you don’t use it.
