iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Launched in the UAE
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus launched at midnight last night in the UAE. Electronic retail outlets like Jumbo, Jacky’s, Emax and iStyle started selling the phones and allowing people who pre-ordered their phone to collect them at midnight. Both du and Etisalat were also open for business and had people queueing up to collect their pre-ordered iPhones. We were present at Du’s offices at Al Salam Tower in Dubai Media City and there was quite some excitement in the air with lots of people eagerly waiting for the clock to strike 12.
|iPhone 6||iPhone 6 Plus|
|16GB||2749 AED||3149 AED|
|64GB||3149 AED||3549 AED|
|128GB||3549 AED||3949 AED|
Even though the iPhones have been out in the grey market ever since they got released in other countries over the globe, people have had to wait till the official launches to avoid paying hiked up prices. The first person in line to get their pre-ordered iPhone from du arrived at 6pm. There were reports of queues starting to build up around 9pm in iStyle at Dubai Mall as well. The queues can be easily attributed to the fact that this is the first time the iPhones have launched one week after their official launch in the US, last year it took months for the iPhone 5S and 5C to launch officially.
Du also had a few surprises in store for people – the first person to Pre-Order the iPhone through their website got 6 iPhones as a gift (a mix of both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus). The first 6 people in the queue got one iPhone free with their purchase. Du Also announced new special offers for the new iPhones – the highlight, get a 12 month contract and 6 months will be free of cost, essentially halving your monthly bill. Etisalat had their own slew of offers as seen in the tweet below and visit this link for more info: http://etisalat.ae/en/personal/smartphones/iphone-nokia-huawei/iphone/iphone6-plans.jsp
For those not interested in the contractual offers, the upfront prices on the Apple Online Store in the UAE are AED 150 cheaper than what the networks are offering.
With the new Apple Store rumored to be coming in the UAE next year, and considering the time difference, we expect the iPhones to be launched in UAE before they launch in the US. You can’t be punished for hoping that actually happens right?
