The startups of Crowdfund Pitch Competition at Impact Hub
The Impact Hub held the first Crowdfund Pitch competition in Dubai. We went down to see what all the buzz was about.
It is an incubator in a quirky space located at Souq Al Bahar in the heart of Downtown Dubai. In addition to that it also hosts quite a few events that many from the startup scene may find useful. On the 18th of June, it hosted Crowdfund Pitch Competition for startups where the winning prize pool was created by the entry fees paid by attendees. Each startup got 4 minutes and the rules were quite simple – the startups had the stage, their words and the use of props. No powerpoint or any other visual aids.
There were a total of 10 finalist startups. For a quick look at their pitches, check out the video above
The 10 startups were the finalists from a total of 34 that submitted their applications. Each of them put up a great show. Even the event had a great turnout – 103 people attended the event and raised a total of 10,300 dirhams for the prize pool – exceeding the 10,000 dirham target set by Impact Hub.
The winner of Crowdfun was Wepul – the online skills trading platform who delivered a great pitch with a very compelling proposition. We hope to see more such events in the coming months.
