Careem officially launches in Jeddah, has its eyes set straight on GCC
Three months after its soft launch / pilot phase, Careem is officially launching in Jeddah today. To understand what goes more into the pilot phase, we spoke to Mudassir Sheikha, Co-founder of Careem. He explained to us that during the pilot phase, the focus remains on getting a good fleet in steady supply. This includes arrangement with local companies, training of drivers among other things. There is constant testing and improvement based on feedback – metrics such as Rating and on-time arrival are key, both during pilot and post-launch.
Sheikha adds so far in Jeddah, Careem is receiving an average rating of 4.8 and 99% on time arrivals for cars that have been pre-booked.
The startup has been on an expansion spree, especially after raising its last round in September of last year. Careem raised $1.7 million in a round that was led by STC Ventures.
Sheikha said Careem remains focused on the GCC in the near future. Careem currently operates in UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
